Fish-In 2007

IDAHO FISH-IN 2007' WRAPUP AND PHOTOS

By Denny Conrad

What happened to the write up and photos? Better a bit late than never.

Perhaps you all have read VEE's report of the woman's fishing we had there. The thought of having something set aside just for the women attending, run by an experienced Fly Fisher Woman, has been one of my main objectives for several years. The only problem was to get the right person to run things. Vickie stepped up and has run with it. We will have a program again in 2008. Thanks Vickie!

The weather cooperated until just before our competitions on Friday afternoon. Better then, than when we all wanted to fish.

We had an official number of 63 people attend. In talking with all of the folks who attended, not one person who chose to fish was skunked. Normally everyone who drops a fly in either the Lochsa or the Selway Rivers catches fish. Again, everyone caught fish. There were some big ones and some dinks. Everyone had fun from the reports I got. One must love those West Slope Cutts!

Without a doubt for catching fish, these two rivers are the best in the USA. One of the reasons is we try to have the Fish In to match the October caddis hatch. There are two of them each fall. As I checked the underside of rocks, daily, found the main larger October caddis had come off earlier than previous Fish Ins. We got in on the smaller caddis hatching. So I put my thinking hat on and moved the time schedule up a couple days for next year. For 2008 the dates are planned for Sept 20 through Sept 26th.

Yes, Starting on a Saturday and ending Friday night after the Feed. Most come in early anyhow and leave early Saturday to get home and back to work.

We had a nice visit from Superman, giving us an excellent demonstration in casting. Always fun and informative to have JC do his thing. He was handicapped this time as LF was sidelined from casting by recent surgery. Hopefully she will be well by next ID FI!

Evenings are always fun, as the facilities at Three Rivers Resort are the best. Lots of folks shared tying and I was informed some lying as well.

One evening I did a show and tell on how we process the birds. JC did a beautiful job of filming the entire one-hour. I do have a couple CDs available for showing at your club, should you want to borrow one. Contact me. I'm not selling them.

The rain got to us after Superman gave his demo so the casting accuracy contest and distance contest were not to be. As prizes were on hand, we put all the names in a hat and drew for the winners. REE won one of the drawings but chose to put it back in the pot for a re-draw. (thanks Ron) It ended being gifted to one of our younger tiers that has progressed nicely in his tying. The other contest was won by one of our women ff's. She was given the option of getting the full skin or her choice of a grade #2 cape, her choice of color. She took the cape. It was mailed to her and she reported back to me a big thank you. (She and her husband had to leave earlier that day to get home to a previous commitment.)

So even though the weather dampened the two events, we all had fun.

Z had us a nice charcoal bed of coals burning at the perfect temp for all of us to do our steaks to our own desires for the Friday night cook-out. There was so much food, provided by everyone that I doubted if it would all be eaten. Ya, guess what? That bunch not only can fish but are first class when it comes to packing away the food.

All during the FI at any and all hours I saw JC and LF outside their cabin, helping anyone who asked.

I like the Three Rivers Resort as a place to stay. Everyone is close to the action. Often, in the evening, around the campfire, folks make plans of who they want to fish with the next day and where. It really works out nicely for everyone. There is always someone to give advise of where and how to fish the waters.

It is never too early to phone the Resort and reserve a room/site. Ask for Marie and tell her you are with the Fly Anglers On Line group. 1-888-926-4430. For 2008.

Also e-mail FAOL and get your name on the "I'm Going List 2008."

We had fly fishermen from: WA, CA, BC, CO, OR, PA MT, KS, TX, KY, UT, MO, WV, CT, NV, VT, and OHIO.

Thanks to everyone who attended and made this one of the best ever. Hope to see all of you again in 2008.

This will be the last year for me to Host. Time for someone else to step up and drive next year.

Thanks for Co Hosting to REE and VEE and Les Young. Without all your help it would not have been possible. ~ Denny
