Well gang, the big event is just a week away and we are planing, packing, and still tying flies for PA. The response has been wonderful; casual events offered every evening, great fishing each day on several streams and an opportunity for some fun with casting on Saturday. The details follow here with more on the bulletin board. For all the information on the Fish-In bulletin board, be sure to select 'show topics for the past 30 days.'

I expect many impromptu events; tying, casting etc. Several more have offered including Bob (Mantis) Mead on tying and Leon (comparadun) Chandler with a very impressive program of fly fishing around the world.

I will fly, on Saturday, from Seattle to Indianapolis, where I will be picked up Old Rupe, then drive his truck to State College PA. We should hit there mid-morning on Sunday, tired but full of anticipation. It seems most of those not camping are staying at the Holiday Inn in Milesburg. They have DISCOUNTED room rates for the FAOL group to $50 per night. To get that rate you MUST let them know you are with the FAOL group! Call Anita Madston at: 814-355-7521 for reservations.

Sorry to report that the LadyFisher will not be with me this trip. She will stay back, keep the website running, post pictures I will send from PA and save us quite a few bucks in the process. As you all know these trips ain't cheap! See you there! ~ James (JC) Castwell

This is at least part of the long awaited information about the'Fish-In 2000.' As you probably know the 'Fish-in 99' in South Dakota was a fine success. As it was in progress the folks in Pennsylvania were already hard at work to make sure the event for 2000 would be held on the east coast. When you have that many hard working folks willing to put all the details together, how could we resist? We are pleased to announce that it will be held in State College, Pennsylvania, in the Nittany Valley.

State College is a lovely town in Centre county in the middle of Pennsylvania, home of Penn State. Here is a map.

Regional map

Here are two web sites where you can get more information on the area.

Flyfisher's Paradise in State College, PA is the "official" fly shop - gathering place - for the Fish-In 2000! For more local information, including how to tie their local favorite flies, visit their website!

The date has been set and will be from Monday May 1st through Saturday the 6th of May. Folks are welcome to come early and stay later, but the 'official' dates are set. The details are still in the works but as of now may include some visiting dignitaries, casting games (fun stuff), some very serious casting competition (ACA sanctioned), slide shows, casting instruction for those who want to 'tune-up,'and other informative events. And, oh yes, lots of varied and interesting fly fishing on many of the regions famous streams. To mention just a few: Penns Creek, Spring Creek, Fishing Creek, Spruce Creek, Little Juniata River, Honey Creek, Bald Eagle Creek, Kishacoquillas Creek, and several others. There is major airport at Harrisburg, PA., and a small airport at State College.

We may ask that you pre-register so we have some clue as to how many are going to show up. There should be a variety of accommodations available from tenting to motel type. See the link below for the Accommodations Page! This is a "on your own" event. You make your own arrangements, we just all get together, fish, swap stories, and have fun. No dues, no registration.

We hope you will mark your calenders for that week now, and plan on joining folks from FAOL for fishing and fun - and hopefully a Hendrickson hatch on the legendary waters of the East.

If you plan on making it to the Fish-In 2000, drop us an email and we'll put your name on the I'm Going List! ~ JC

I'm going list!
