I have a Stetson fedora that belonged to my father and it’s my favorite fishing hat. The one Brad Pitt wears is not the same…it’s brim is too large and it’s more plain than the traditional fedora that you see in old movies. It is simular though.

In the 1930’s they wore mostly Fedoras, probably fur felt ones which are quite expensive today. You can get some good, water repellent crushable wool felt ones for reasonable prices. Hartford York, a hat selling company sells both varieties. They have a very nice crushable, water repellent wool felt snap brim made by Scala for 55 bucks. It has a grosgrain band but don’t try putting a barbed fly in it or you will never get it out! The have a web site where you can look at them and other fedora type hats like Irish wool Trilby’s (aka “walking hats”)which make great fishing hats! http://www.hartfordyork.com.
Keep your head dry!
Bob
PS: The Scala hat described above is known as the “Roadmaster.”
I would only ad that if you find the ‘RRTI’ hat it may not suit you. I have a fedora and two Panamas (ie. same but in straw) and an oiled cotton Aussie hat so have chosen a few. The shape of a person’s face, their size and build (even the size of their ears!) all affect the size of the BRIM that looks good on them. I suggest going to a good (or even moderate) hat seller in your area and finding any hats that look OK on you and measuring the brim. Even a 1/4" can make an appearance difference, and 1/2" is huge. My $.02.

I seriously doubt that he stole your material. Much more likely, he bought his own at a different grocery store.

Who cares about what Pitt’s wearing. I want a hat just like that Bodalion Trahern guy wore in “El Dorado”. Now that’s a fishin’ hat!
Lew,
NOW your going to make me review that movie! I don’t know what your talking about!
The felt ‘Cowboy’ Hat I’ve had for years is felt, size large, WPL 4384, Made in USA, 100% Wool, that’s all I know. This wonderful hat takes a beating and keeps on ticking! It has protected my face from the sun, faithfully!

Joni,
My felt cowboy hat isn’t hot as heck!, but it isn’t cool as heck either! You said “This is how women folk do it in these parts” and the above photo shows a female standing in the river with her dress on, my question is DO WHAT??? I’m not trying to joke around either.
Thanks,
Doug P.S. Listening to the Romantics; What I like about You! REAL Romantic alright! "What I like about You, Is you keep me WARM at night!!!

What you can’t see in the picture is a little black purse hanging off her shoulder. She was FF. I don’t know if the Purse was a regular purse or if it was to hold her Flies, Tippet, etc.
We just stood and watched with our jaws hanging.
