What I Leave Behind
by David P. Salamone
Where I travel is but a flash in time,
What I leave in my wake is forever defined.
While here, shall I endeavor to leave?
Life for fellow man in peaceful repose.
Had I one more year to contribute,
I would do so with the wisdom of my years,
Not a whimsical gesture or selfish onslaught,
frivolous words and childish thought.
Now I cover my name with my actions and deeds,
As I mingle among fellows much stronger in deed,
So carefully, I shall step as I follow their paths,
Let my prints behind me be not cover their casts,
Leaving mankind enriched and imprinted once more,
With hope and inspiration as never before. ~ David P. Salamone
