Thanks Lee! I found some crappies near shore this weekend as well, I assume they are beginning to prepare for spawning here as well....
I've seen better looking bullheads, for sure. But like all catfish (and all fish, for that matter), they are well suited for their method of feeding.
It was really fun getting to see them react to...
In the months before moving to MO from IA, I caught the heck out of Black Bullheads and Goldfish on flies. Those were two fish I didn't expect to readily find after moving, but here we are. I've...
I'm pretty sure they are, yes. I think the Missouri River and Mississippi River and their tributaries are all populated by naturally-reproducing Grass Carp. Neither river really has much vegetation...
Thanks! Hopefully there will be more of those showing up over the next couple months.
Flyfished Saturday. Very nice day...reached 76 degrees, but started out in the 30's, and had low temps below freezing the previous 2 evenings...I think that had a big affect on the fishing.
And...
A 1/80th Springbrook Wunder Microjig suspended under a Fish Pimp original size strike indicator. Depth depended on how deep the fish appeared to be at the time...anywhere from a 6" to 2' usually. ...
Sounds like a very cool experience!
Thank you, Lee!
Speaking of Shiners...I caught a big Golden shiner that day too. Is this the same kind of shiner those bass are fond of?...
Great! I hope you have some good luck there, Dale! :D
It really was! Koi have been on my radar for a long time. Catching ONE on the fly rod was the goal. Being able to catch so many and such a variety... I'm very thankful and appreciative for the...
Koi have been on my fly rod bucket list for many years. Caught 13 yesterday...various colors and scale patterns, from typical scales to mirrors to leather (nearly scale-less). Here's a few. The...
Is it still good ice? Does ice-out usually hit your area in early April?
Ice melted off and waters are warming quickly. Flyfishing is heating up as well.

That's cool! I like it! :D
Aww, that's a great picture!
Thanks, Dale! :D
Thanks for posting that....it feels good to even just to see a PICTURE of a fish right now. Got the shack nasties going on. Used to icefish during the winter, but before moving to STL, MO, I gave...
Awesome! That looks similar (different color maybe?) to one you gave me when Dale and I visited. The water was extremely muddy that day at the first pond...this fly was the only thing that caught...
I haven't been able to confirm this...but I know this stream hasn't been stocked in many many years. And other such streams in MO were stocked with McCloud strain Rainbow Trout way back then. So,...
I got that one today. Lots of question marks in the message.
Pretty sure this was the last fishing trip of 2020 for me. Went to a nearby park with a trout-stocked pond. The pond was about 65% covered with a thin layer of ice.
The open areas were mostly...
Guys north of you in Ankeny were icefishing on 2"-3" of ice this weekend. I've been on 2.5"....that was not smart. 3" of good ice is ok to fish on. My buddy said 3 guys were standing all together...
Hit a new-to-me lake Saturday. Got skunked. Then I went to a lake that skunked me the last time I visited it. Caught 2 trout and 4 crappies....
