My first Humpies
My first Humpies:

Haven't done small dry flies in a very long time. A guy at work asked me to tie some for him.
These were kind of difficult for me. Proportion is everything on these. Not too bad for first time.

I agree with Rick's suggestion, but those look pretty good.

Humpies are a challenge, and I find the smaller ones even a bit tougher. Like you said, proportion is critical to get the fly to come out right; I’d use Charlie Craven’s Improved Humpy as a guide (it’s the easiest method I’ve found to tie them properly) - he and Hans Weilenman are the best I’ve seen when it comes to proportion control, amounts and position of the material on the hook.

Years ago I made cheat sheets for a number of different flies I tied a lot of... Humpies being one, and made a scale for different sizes. Using them my consistency went way up...
